Modern Wedding Etiquette Dos and Don’ts

Wedding traditions and etiquette rules are meant to be broken. We believe in each wedding being unique to each couple. Whether you embrace the old traditions or toss them out the window, make a day that is true to you and your fiance. However, there is still one thing to always make a priority: showing appreciation to your guests and wedding party for celebrating with you.

Do tell your closest family and friends about your engagement before making it social media official.

Do have the wedding YOU want to have (and can afford).

Don’t have the wedding your parents or friends want you to have.

Do be upfront with your wedding party about expenses they might incur.

Don’t be offended if someone turns down a spot in your wedding party due to finances.

Do allow unmarried and non-engaged guests to bring a plus one.

Do wear whatever you believe reflects your personal style and relationship.

Do invite guests who mean the most to each of you.

Don’t invite guests out of obligation, but — if it will reduce stress and heartache for you and your fiance — a courtesy invite is a nice gesture.

Do be transparent if you want a kid-free wedding.

Do send thank you notes to anyone who brought a gift.

Do provide meals to wedding professionals who are present at your reception.
