The Beauty Room | Southern Illinois Wedding Hairstylist and Makeup Artist
Kayla Hudgens, professional Southern Illinois wedding hairstylist and makeup artist, tells us about her business…
The Beauty Room
My name is Kayla. I am a hairstylist and makeup artist at The Beauty Room in Marion. I have been doing hair for 6 years and makeup for 5 years. At The Beauty Room, we believe in working with our clients to achieve the best end results! We are a full service hair salon specializing in special event hair and makeup.
Each and every wedding that we get to be a part of is so special to us. My favorite part of each wedding party is to see the bride after we have just added the finishing touches and she looks in the mirror with the biggest smile on her face! There is nothing better than knowing that you have made someone feel and look so beautiful on their big day.
What did you contribute to the Marie Antoinette styled shoot and what was your inspiration?
I did the hair and makeup. I would say my biggest inspiration would be the model Mackenzie Martin. She was so excited and so into the Marie Antoinette theme that it made me excited too! Once we started chatting about the shoot and looking at photos together, I just knew this was going to be great.
What kind of clients do you serve?
Brides and bridal parties; anyone who needs special event hair and makeup. As well as clients who need everyday hair care and maintenance.
From the model
My experience at the Beauty Room with Kayla was awesome! I got there a bit early and she was still setting up, but she told me to go ahead and take a seat and go make myself comfortable! So, I did exactly that. The shop was adorable, and the whole experience was very relaxed and pleasant. This was my first time meeting Kayla and there was no awkwardness at all! She’s super laid-back, and we had awesome conversation the whole time. Not to mention she knows her stuff! The hair and makeup turned out beautifully. I would recommend her to anyone! I even made myself an appointment to get a cut and color soon!
My favorite part about the hair was how simple it was yet so intricate looking. In my opinion, curly up-dos are always a good choice for a special occasion. They are a classic. The makeup was also simple, but was just enough to pull the whole look together. The pink lip color and rosy cheeks gave my face the right amount of pop to bring out the colors in the other accessories. This look made me feel kind of sassy, to be honest! It really helped me get into the feel and mood of the location and setting, especially after putting on the dresses, too. It helped me give attitude and sass for when it was needed... let them eat cake.
I was never really the type of girl to give a whole lot of thought about her wedding day. Sure, I wanted it to look nice and hoped it would happen someday, but never had any set plans or ideas for it. After Britni came to me with the idea for this shoot, I was instantly intrigued. This time period has always been one of the most interesting to me, and being a fashion stylist major, I was all over it. Everything is so lacy, delicate and feminine. I love it. The hair and makeup captured this perfectly and played into the overall cohesiveness of the shoot. It was such a dreamy setting and look, I would definitely rock this for my own wedding day.
